Truly Remote

If you work at Rotera, we have trust in you. You don’t need micromanagement, let alone in-person micromanagement!

We are a 100% remote workforce and have been since the beginning. We believe that you are most productive where you are most comfortable - and work is a thing to accomplish, not a place to go.

  • Rotera offers a PPO health insurance plan through Humana. Rotera covers 75% of employee premiums and 50% of dependent premiums.

  • Rotera offers a vision insurance plan through Beam. Rotera covers 75% of employee premiums and 50% of dependent premiums.

  • Rotera offers a dental insurance plan through Guardian. Rotera covers 75% of employee premiums and 50% of dependent premiums.

  • Rotera pays the full premium on a $50,000 life insurance plan through Nationwide.

  • Rotera has a safe harbor 401k plan managed by Guideline. As a part of this plan, Rotera matches 100% of the first 3% employee contribution and 50% of the next 2% employee contribution. So, for example, if an employee contributes 5% of income to the 401k, Rotera will match a 4% of income contribution.

  • Rotera provides its full-time employees with the freedom to balance the responsibilities of both their work and home lives. Unlimited PTO starts your first day - no acruals, no hassles. As long as you are able to fulfill your duties, you can take off when you want. We also require a minimum of 2 days of PTO be taken each quarter.

  • Rotera has an unprecedented 14 official holidays.

  • We encourage any employee who wants to have a voice in how we operate and grow to join one of our committees. We currently have three internal committees to coordinate events and opportunities to embrace our values. These will certainly evolve and expand over time.

    • DE&I and Environmental Responsibility - embrace B-corp values and ensure social and environmental responsibility as a company and individuals.

    • Health & Wellness - encourage mental and physical health.

    • Culture/Fun - find ways for us to get to know each other better, have fun at work, and celebrate our successes.

  • The first Friday of each month is designated as a half-day. After the All Hands meeting, all employees are encouraged to log off early and take some time to unwind.

  • All Rotera employees are granted $500 annually to do something fun. This could be used towards a vacation, lessons, cooking classes, purchasing a new bike, whatever the employee chooses. Employees can use this at any time during the year and just need to submit an expense report for reimbursement.

  • Rotera offers an annual charity match of 200% of an employee contribution, up to $200 annually. For example, if you donate $100, Rotera will donate $200. Contributions can be set up as one-time or recurring and pull directly from payroll. Setup can be managed in the Gusto employee portal.

  • All employees are given $250 annually to spend on any professional development they would like that is relevant to their work. Additional funds are provided ad hoc through the normal coaching/mentorship process.

  • Rotera has 12 core values. Each month one value is highlighted and employees are nominated for embracing that value. Each monthly All Hands meeting congratulates the employee with the most nominations and provides a small gift in recognition.

  • New employees are given a stipend to buy gear they may need for their home office. Other expenditures can be discussed on an as needed basis.

  • Each year we designate one day to be a volunteer day. We do our best to find volunteer opportunities that all employees can participate in from their own home city.

  • Don’t be complacent - the moment that we are is the moment we will fall. Always strive for excellence - we will never stand out unless we push ourselves to the limit, daily. Our ideas are not unique, but how we act on them and deliver for our customers is, and that is what builds greatness.

  • Nobody at Rotera is all mighty. Regardless of title/ownership/tenure, you will roll up your sleeves everyday. Sometimes the most junior team member will need to be a leader. Sometimes the CEO will be managing a customer. Never expect that career growth means there will be no more hard work. We don’t hire people to just manage people - we all contribute to the end product. Moreover, if somehow in the future someone constructs a cushy role for themselves….it will be eliminated.

  • Rotera is a democracy. All voices will be heard, but one voice will never overshadow the rest. Like embracing diversity, we must know that all viewpoints matter. That said, we will never argue for the sake of arguing. To sustain our relationships we always seek to find common ground before ending the day / meeting / sprint / etc.

  • We seek to work in teams and share outcomes. This is not a staff augmentation company, we build our projects in a way that don’t put people on islands. All roles contribute at all phases of a project - excessive handoffs lead to unsatisfactory outcomes. Lastly, don’t spin your wheels for more than an hour - find support from the team, the same challenge has likely been encountered before.

  • The telephone is still one of the best inventions of all time, use it. Don’t expect that a Slack message or email will solve an urgent matter. If you are waiting on something and aren’t getting responses, call the person in need! If someone didn’t see your message, don’t assume they are ignoring you - it’s impossible to see every email/text/slack message.

  • If we fail at something, fingers won’t be pointed. Sure, we want to know what happened, but not for disciplinary purposes, rather to learn as a team about what we can collectively do to prevent a recurrence. Every single team member is responsible for our outcomes. Never feel like you can’t voice concern or talk about something you feel you may have done wrong - it’s on all of us to understand, reflect, and improve as a group.
